All the articles and tools available on our website are here only because they are great ways for you to, and information on how to, save money. Our information is based on detailed and independent research. We offer no paid advertising on this site and infact we have turned down hundreds of offers.

When the Savings Friend was first set up we had no way of generating money, but as our user base increased, it became more and more difficult to meet the rising website maintenance and staffing costs. Now our service has a good income and so we hope to grow even stronger and continue to provide you with the informative articles we have been able to provide so far. You should know that although we are making money on this site every pound earnt is made without ever compromising the ethics that we initially set out to have.

So how exactly do we generate income? 

Our articles are written only to give you the best advice as how to save money. Once the article is completed one of our staff places affiliate links on products mentioned so that through free will if you choose to do so you may visit the products site. Affiliate links look like normal links to other websites but if you click through, the link is tracked and it may generate a payment to our service (sometimes for the click, per application or per accepted application)

Does this compromise the ethics of the site?

Absolutely not. The SavingsFriend articles are written, then totally independently, paid affiliate links are found.  If no paying affiliate link is found, absolutely nothing in the article will change (absolutely never). Therefore, our financial considerations do not play any part in article selection or promotion.

Where do you get the affiliate links?

All the links come from comparison sites like Uswitch, Smartquotes or affiliate websites such as Commission Junction. Each link is used and then if someone clicks through, this site gets a proportion of their revenue.

It makes more sense to do it this way than approach each financial institution individually as they would more likely try to pressure us into promoting their product over someonelses.
 
Quite often our links will appear as comparison tables because this seems to demonstrate clearly the best product to choose to save money. You can click on the links without worry as you will not be charged more for clicking on an affiliate link.

There is no legal requirement to tell you we have affiliate links on our site and actually most websites try to hide them so you dont know. However, the Savings Friend team prides themselves in being honest and so we think you should know how we make money on this site.

Does this ethical stance make a difference?
